Memorial Chamber
More Info | + My Favorites
Located within the Peace Tower of the Canadian Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, this chamber keeps Canada's seven Books of Remembrance, which contains the names of Canada's war dead. Each day there is a Turning of the Page ceremony, where a page in each book is turned over; in this way, every name in the book is recognized one day a year. The chamber itself, featuring a vaulted ceiling, is beautifully crafted with ornate carvings. The chamber was built to honour those soldiers who didn't return and to serve Canadians who wish to grieve their loss.

The National Aboriginal Veterans Monument, found in Confederation Park in Ottawa, is a memorial to all the Aboriginal people who have served Canada through the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. It was unveiled on June 21, 2001, on National Aboriginal Day. It is estimated that more than 12,000 Métis, Inuit and First Nations people have served. Peace Tower

The Peace Tower is the central clock tower that gives the Canadian Parliament Buildings in Ottawa its impressive silhouette. Officially called the Tower of Victory and Peace, it is an icon that contains several interesting and impressive elements. Towering at 92.2 m (302 ft) it houses: the Memorial Chamber, which contains Canada's seven Books of Remembrance; 700 carved elements, made from stone quarried from the battlefields of Europe such as Flanders' Fields; commanding stained glass windows at 7 m by 3.5 m that depict allegorical symbols; and a 53-bell carillon that is used for recitals, state funerals and Remembrance Day.

Canadian Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
More Info | + My Favorites
Found in Confederation Square, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is located at the National War Memorial. Built in 2000, the monument holds the remains of an unidentified Canadian soldier from the First World War who died serving his country in France--representing the 116,000 Canadians who sacrificed their lives for freedom. The tomb features a 12-foot-long granite sarcophagus, which stands at the foot of the National War Memorial. By unofficial tradition, the public place their poppies on the tomb on Remembrance Day, along with photos and flowers. On Canada Day, many place their small, paper Canada flags here.
